The iPad was created for the cool kids. It was created for the mother living next door. It was created for the student going to college. It was designed for the people in the world who couldn’t give a shit if they can program the next great million dollar app or not. It was created to give people a way to be entertained without having to book a chiropractor appointment from having to lug their laptop around on their travels.

It other words it was designed for real people living real lives.

Apple has sent me a reminder that the iPhone 3G S is coming!

There’s info out there that depending on when you’re eligible based on your plan and when you purchased. Well, at the local AT&T Store where I live, I was #8 or 9 in line… I don’t have much need for a ton of minutes, so I have the 450 minute plan and 1500 text messages. I do, however, receive a plan discount because of where I work… so we’ll see if I’ll be able to upgrade once AT&T’s systems update.

I’m not planning on getting the iPhone 3G S anyways simply because I got the first iPhone the launch weekend, the iPhone 3G morning of the launch (and slept outside the night before). With the limited benefits I would receive from the 3G S, it’s really not worth the extra money and having to sign a new 2-year contract. Who knows, I might be able to go to another carrier when the next iPhone comes out, get more and pay less.

</rant>

Update: I was given an iPhone 3GS for my birthday by one of my best friends. It was really surprising, but I still have been enjoying the new features. The speed difference really is noticeable when using apps including launching the camera. So while I didn’t necessarily purchase the 3GS, I still ended up with on <grin>

So I did end up getting my iWork the other day and am really pleased with it so far. I use iWork almost exclusively (rather than MS Office). In my previous post, I said I mainly use Pages and Keynote. I rarely use Numbers or Excel for that matter. The only time I really use Excel is when I have to submit an RMA request for a vendor.

I use Pages so intensively that I’ve even turned to Pages for creative documents rather than using Adobe’s Indesign or Illustrator. I even created a newspaper ad that is appearing in the Daily Vidette today solely using Pages. I have yet to see it but I can only hope that it turns out well.

Apple has added a few new features that I’ve noticed in my limited use so far of the automatic guides showing how far away you are from other objects. If Pages ‘08 did that, I never saw it.

I also give a number of presentations throughout the year and definitely prefer Keynote over PowerPoint any day. In many ways, Keynote and Pages operate identically which makes using them very familiar and easy.

I even went ahead and downloaded the Keynote Remote (link opens iTunes App store). I’m fairly impressed with the simplicity of it. If you have the Keynote displayed in portrait mode, it also displays the notes that you have for that slide right underneath it in the same theme of the notes feature in the Mail app and on the iPhone. If you have the Keynote displayed in landscape mode on the phone, it shows your current and next slide but does omit the notes unless I just didn’t see how to get to them.

The only downside to the Keynote Remote app is that you have to be on the same network. On the surface, it seems like a pretty easy thing. At work, there is WiFi available pretty much anywhere on campus, however, it’s pretty locked down. With my computer and iPhone on the WiFi, I could not sync them together. Luckily, I was able to create a WiFi network from my laptop, connect the iPhone to it and sync the phone to it then.

In brief, iWork ‘09 is a nice upgrade to my already beloved Pages and Keynote apps. Numbers, we still need to get to know each other.
