"The West Wing" and Barack Obama

All campaign season, I’ve been astonished at some of the similarities between the last couple seasons of “The West Wing” where you see the election campaign trail. Some of the instances of similarity are uncanny. To my surprise, it’s no coincidence.
When Eli Attie, a writer for “The West Wing,” prepared to plot some episodes about a young Democratic congressman’s unlikely presidential bid, he picked up the phone and called David Axelrod.
Mr. Attie, a former speechwriter for Vice President Al Gore, and Mr. Axelrod, a political consultant, had crossed campaign trails before. “I just called him and said, ‘Tell me about Barack Obama,’ ” Mr. Attie said.

For those that know me well, they know one of the TV shows that I’m a pretty big fan of is The West Wing. I wish we could vote for “Bartlet for America” for real. I do like, however, that Obama’s slogan is/was “Obama for America” among the others like “Change We Can Belive In” etc…
At any rate, Will Ferrell and the crew over at funnyordie.com have come together with another Paris Hilton for President video with Martin Sheen as the most popular fake president.
Maverick for Sale
Oct 3rd
Came across a great post about the “Maverick” John McCain. It’s spot on.
When John McCain constantly refers to himself as a “Maverick,” I assume he means a cheap, poorly put-together, domestic car that had its best days 30 years ago. Otherwise, I’m embarrassed for him. After all, self-deprecatory automotive analogies are endearing. Gerald Ford once momentarily won America’s (fickle) heart by telling her that he was a Ford not a Lincoln.
