iWork – Quick Recap

So I did end up getting my iWork the other day and am really pleased with it so far. I use iWork almost exclusively (rather than MS Office). In my previous post, I said I mainly use Pages and Keynote. I rarely use Numbers or Excel for that matter. The only time I really use Excel is when I have to submit an RMA request for a vendor.

I use Pages so intensively that I’ve even turned to Pages for creative documents rather than using Adobe’s Indesign or Illustrator. I even created a newspaper ad that is appearing in the Daily Vidette today solely using Pages. I have yet to see it but I can only hope that it turns out well.

Apple has added a few new features that I’ve noticed in my limited use so far of the automatic guides showing how far away you are from other objects. If Pages ‘08 did that, I never saw it.

I also give a number of presentations throughout the year and definitely prefer Keynote over PowerPoint any day. In many ways, Keynote and Pages operate identically which makes using them very familiar and easy.

I even went ahead and downloaded the Keynote Remote (link opens iTunes App store). I’m fairly impressed with the simplicity of it. If you have the Keynote displayed in portrait mode, it also displays the notes that you have for that slide right underneath it in the same theme of the notes feature in the Mail app and on the iPhone. If you have the Keynote displayed in landscape mode on the phone, it shows your current and next slide but does omit the notes unless I just didn’t see how to get to them.

The only downside to the Keynote Remote app is that you have to be on the same network. On the surface, it seems like a pretty easy thing. At work, there is WiFi available pretty much anywhere on campus, however, it’s pretty locked down. With my computer and iPhone on the WiFi, I could not sync them together. Luckily, I was able to create a WiFi network from my laptop, connect the iPhone to it and sync the phone to it then.

In brief, iWork ‘09 is a nice upgrade to my already beloved Pages and Keynote apps. Numbers, we still need to get to know each other.

iWork '09 – In the mail

My iWork has already shipped and I should have it tomorrow. I didn’t want to pay for the expedited shipping… so we’ll see when it gets here.

I love the current iWork! I primarily use Pages and Keynote but don’t really use Numbers all that much, I really have no need.

I’ll let you know what I think when it gets here.
